Artistic Director Job Description

Broom Street Theater is hiring a new Artistic Director!

The Broom Street Theater Board of Directors will conduct interviews later in 2016 with qualified applicants. The new Artistic Director will assume duties in March 2017.  If you are interested in this position, please email ad-job@bstonline.org with a resume and cover letter. Broom Street Theater is a nonprofit arts organization with a modest annual budget. The Artistic Director position is a part-time commitment averaging 10 hours per week, and is compensated with a small stipend.

The Artistic Director will:

  • Plan a season of 9 – 10 plays
    • Issue an open call for submissions
    • Facilitate reading and reviewing of submissions
    • Review final selected plays
    • Recruit and develop writers and directors
    • Announce season
  • Serve on the board of directors
    • Attend meetings
    • Write reports and maintain consistent communication with the board
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Be a public face of the theater
    • Serve as an initial point of contact
    • Establish and maintain press relations
    • Foster positive relationships with other theater groups
  • Give final approval for all publicity
  • Coordinate mentoring and education
    • Schedule and oversee classes
    • Cultivate script and director development
  • Establish contact with outside groups, and approve of outside events
  • Work with a board member as secondary contact to all productions
  • Inform all production staff, cast, and crew of policies
    • Coordinate with the board on getting contracts signed
  • Be available for urgent artistic matters (such as cancellations) and connect with board members if necessary
  • Assist in arranging outside audition and rehearsal space
  • Keep informed of a production’s audition and rehearsal schedule
