Submissions
Broom Street Theater accepts submissions of unpublished, unproduced scripts! Sometimes, we even read them! (Seriously, we’re a very small shop producing up to ten plays a season, and it could take us up to a year or more to read your submission.) Should we choose to produce your work, we’ll pair you with one of our directors, and it will be up to the two of you how extensively you want to workshop your script. Unfortunately, we’re not in a position to pay royalties.
Every show gets a production budget of just $500. We believe that technical bells and whistles are not necessary to make great art. If you’re submitting Miss Saigon or Starlight Express, you’ve picked the wrong theater. We like experimental, we like unflinching, we like non-commercial, we like weird.
We’re trying hard to diversify the stories we tell. Stories about experiences other than straight white American middle-class Madison hippie are welcomed – encouraged – craved.
If you’re interested, there are more details and a handy submission form on our submissions page.
